If neglected for too long it leads to less nutrient supply to the fetus which could be fatal.
How is hyperemesis gravidarum treated?
A condition like hyperemesis gravidarum should not be neglected for too long. To treat this condition effectively at times a brief hospitalisation might also be needed. ‘A hospital stay for 24 to 48 hours where the electrolyte imbalances are corrected through drips helps to reinstate the mother’s condition. If neglected for too long it could make the mother fragile and fatigued. The condition will not affect the baby in general even when the mother undergoes medical treatment,’ assures Dr Sarvaiya.
Who are likely to suffer from hyperemesis gravidarum?
The causes of hyperemesis gravidarum are not known to experts and doctors. However, hormonal changes trigger this kind of severe morning sickness. The hCG hormone that secretes during pregnancy could trigger this. But not all women suffer from hyperemesis gravidarum. Some risk factors that increases the chances of suffering from this condition are
