While hearing a petition, a bench headed by Chief Justice Mohit Shah said, ‘Government may use its machinery to prevent the spread of this dreaded disease but a responsibility is also cast upon the citizens to ensure that they keep their houses clean and free of mosquitoes.’

A PIL has been filed to declare dengue an epidemic as it has claimed many lives in the state. Hearing this PIL, the Bombay High Court asked Maharashtra Government and Directorate of Health Services in the State to file separate affidavits in reply to the public interest litigation. (Read:

As parties to the PIL, the petitioner, Vishnu Gavali has also roped in Chief Minister Devendra Phadnavis and Chief Secretary of the State and City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).

The petitioner argues that CIDCO was not taking enough steps to prevent the spread of dengue in Navi Mumbai and that there is no awareness about cleanliness and hygiene in the city. CIDCO has been asked to file the affidavit in response within two weeks.
