Thanks to the widespread overuse of antibiotics in both humans and animal feed, our gut flora has successfully been depleted and ruined. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has even admitted that the age of antibiotics should be coming to an end as super bacteria take over. Meanwhile, hospitals in England are reporting that patients are carrying record numbers of antibiotic-resistant diseases. Laboratory-confirmed cases of a strain of gut bacteria resistant to pharmaceuticals has risen from five cases to more than 600 in just 7 years.
The health department of England (PHE) has launched a ‘toolkit’ to prevent the spread of antibiotic-resistant gut bacteria to keep this epidemic from getting worse. Officials say there is an ‘urgent need’ for hospitals to halt the spread of an issue caused by the pharmaceutical industry, but one which can also be rectified by natural solutions.
The bacteria-causing infection currently being reported on is called carbapenemase which produces Enterobacteriaceae (CPE). This bacteria is resistant to carbapenem antibiotics, considered the ‘last resort’ drug only used when no other antibiotics have worked to kill an infection. There has been a marked increase in CPE cases in the last decade.
Two trusts in Manchester have had more than 100 patients with CPE.
Stories like these are being reported in a time when even the CDC admits that:
“ Antibiotic use has been beneficial and, when prescribed and taken correctly, their value in patient care is enormous. However, these drugs have been used so widely and for so long that the infectious organisms the antibiotics are designed to kill have adapted to them, making the drugs less effective. People infected with antimicrobial-resistant organisms are more likely to have longer, more expensive hospital stays, and may be more likely to die as a result of the infection.”
It is clear that we need to develop a new strategy for combating health-destructive bacteria – one that will not have such potentially bleak repurcutions for future humankind. Instead of making yourself weaker and depleting your body’s natural ability to treat itself from any number of ailments, try utilizing natural foods and herbs to ditch the Big Pharma medications for good.
Here are 8+ foods which harness natural antibiotic properties.
