432 chikungunya cases in capital, officials alerted
Chikungunya cases have risen to 432 and dengue cases to 487 cases and two deaths in the national capital till August 27.
Last week, the various agencies responsible for preventing and controlling Chikungunya were reviewed in light of the rising number of Chikungunya and Dengue cases in the NCR Delhi. Municipal Bodies have been alerted to work towards creating public awareness. Addressing the issue effectively will help prevent a major outbreak. Union Health Minister, Shri Mishra asked the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) of the Health Ministry, Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporations to monitor construction activities, water storage practices of the public and educate masses about preventive methods. Chikungunya mosquitoes have a shorter incubation period compared to dengue mosquitoes, which is a major reason behind chikungunya outbreak.
