El Salvador Pressured to Buy $277 Million Worth of Monsanto’s GM Poison Seed
Through broadening the reach of a U.S. government agency called the Millennium Challenge Corporation , which contains a condition for purchasing GM seed from Monsanto, a US Ambassador is pressuring the El Salvadoran government to buy ‘improved’ GM seeds – not to feed its country, but to further the interests of the multinational corporation, Monsanto.

GMO El Salvador

This ‘compact’ was put forth with the help of one Michael R. Taylor, appointed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) by Obama. He was previously the VP of Public Policy at the Monsanto Corporation, and has an obvious interest in supporting the goals of Monsanto, not protecting the people of the United States or El Salvador –or  any country for that matter – from the environmental and health degradation that genetically modified organisms impose.

Taylor also set US policyon agriculture in Africa, which is how Monsanto and their ilk planned to sell GM seed to starving nations as part of an ‘aid’ program. Now the President of the El Salvadoran Center for Appropriate Technologies (CESTA), Ricardo Navarro, wants the US to rescind their warped interest in El Salvador’s agricultural policies as well.

Mari Carmen, the US Ambassador to El Salvador, likely acting under Taylor’s guidance, is pressuring the government to purchase GM seed instead of non-GM seed from domestic suppliers. The purchases of these seeds does not benefit El Salvador at all, and is detrimental to local seed production.

At the end of 2013 it was announcedthat without ‘specific’ economic and environmental policy reforms, the U.S. government would not provide El Salvador with $277 million in aid money through the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Twenty-six countries have banned GM seed, ignoring the biotech multinational’s advice to plant it everywhere. Monsanto has illegally contributed to campaign funds, and even to the World Food Prize in order to sustain their monopolies over seed in multiple countries. Since 1999, Monsanto has contributed more than $380 millionto the World Food Prize Foundation and many more millions in US media blitz campaigns to defeat anti-GMO campaigns. It looks as if US Ambassadors to other nations are now also in the pay-off stream.
