Product Review: Philips KeraShine Essential Care Air Styler – Is it worth your money?

Product Review: Philips KeraShine Essential Care Air Styler – Is it worth your money?

Here's what you need to know about the Philips Kera Shine range's product and whether it can help in taming frizzy hair.

I bought the product from Amazon after some research and though the product was originally priced at Rs 2,295, I decided to invest in it because after discount, I could get it for Rs 1,559. I eagerly waited to see how the product would look and whether it would live up to its promise.

The Trial

As the name suggests, the Philips KeraShine Air Straightener is a combination of a brush and a blow dryer. The brush is detachable and has to be attached to the handle and it operates just like your regular blow dryer. The good thing is that because it is detachable, you can carry it while travelling as well and it won’t take up too much space in your luggage and it is also lightweight.

However, I was surprised to observe that it makes a lot more noise than your average blow dryer and sounds a bit like a vacuum cleaner! There are two setting on the handle – one for lower heat and the other is for a higher heat setting and it is advisable to apply some hair serum to protect your hair from the heat. I used this fancy version of a blow dryer for a week. This is how often you can blow dry your hair.

My Review

If you buy this product hoping that it will work as a hair straightener with lesser hair damage, you will be disappointed. This does not straighten your hair in anyway and only helps in adding volume to your hair and reducing the frizz to an extent. My colleagues noticed that my hair had more volume for a change and complimented me, which was great.

However, I was disappointed to see that even after blow drying my hair for 15-20 minutes with the KeraShine Air Straightener, my hair still looked slightly frizzy. Of course, it helped in getting rid of all those pesky fly-aways and reduced the frizz, but only to an extent. The keratin does add some shine to your hair but the effects wear off after an hour or two.

My final verdict is that if you don’t already have a blow dryer and have no idea how to use one, this product is perfect for you and you should invest in it. However, if that’s not the case, don’t bother! After all, the Philips KeraShine Air Straightener is a lot more expensive than a regular blow dryer. These are the best blow dryers for every hair type.

My Rating: 3.5/5
